While each of my paintings holds personal meaning for me, I truly believe that art meets everyone differently. You might see something entirely your own in this piece — a memory, a mood, a moment — and that’s exactly as it should be. Just because I felt something specific when creating it doesn’t mean you have to see it the same way. We all carry different paths, and sometimes a painting becomes a mirror for the quiet things we hold.

About ‘Somewhere Known’
We spent our first white Christmas in Oslo, staying in a little Airbnb just a short walk from the city’s centre. Every day we wandered its streets — and nearly every day, I passed this cathedral. I never stepped inside. I didn’t need to. There was something in the quiet presence of the building that settled in me. I’m not religious, but still, it moved me.
Maybe that’s what this painting is trying to hold onto: not the cathedral itself, but the feeling it stirred. A stillness. A kind of knowing. A sense of belonging in a place that had never been mine — but, somehow, felt like it could be.
A moment that lingered.
A Moment That Stayed
This piece began from a memory I didn’t want to lose. A winter holiday spent with family I’d grown close to, walking snow-covered streets, sharing warm meals, laughing at small things. We passed the cathedral often — it was just there, steady and quiet, as though it had always been watching over the city.
What struck me wasn’t what happened inside it, but how much it seemed to hold just by being there. I stood outside in the cold, surrounded by people I love, and something clicked.
Even though I was far from the place I call home, I felt completely at home. Surrounded by people I love — my partner and his family, who feel like my own — something about that trip settled deep in me. It was connection. It was belonging. It was being held in a moment that didn’t need explaining.
The painting that didn’t resist
Some paintings feel like a conversation. This one felt more like a memory unfolding. The willow charcoal came first, then soft brushwork, then palette knife textures that echoed not the building itself, but what it meant to me.
It didn’t fight me the way others sometimes do. I think that’s because I didn’t need to search for the feeling — it was already there. Still, full, and quietly sure of itself.
Emotion, not replication
This isn’t a precise architectural rendering. It’s not meant to be. The building itself is larger, more detailed, more exact in reality. But I didn’t paint the facts. I painted the feeling.
The texture, the palette knife work, the charcoal beneath it all — each part of the process was a way to hold onto the emotion. The awe. The quiet joy. The stillness. The fullness of standing in the cold with people I love and feeling something so beautifully grounded.
The Stillness I Brought Home
This painting will be part of my upcoming exhibition — and the original won’t be for sale until then. Truthfully, I’m not sure I’ll be ready to let it go. But I believe that if someone connects with it as deeply as I have, it belongs with them.
Because this isn’t just a painting of a cathedral. It’s a marker of something far quieter — a season of stillness, closeness, and memory. It holds more than a building. It carries the memory of a family holiday — a rare, beautiful time spent with people I hadn’t seen in far too long. It was a season of warmth in the cold. Of gathering. Of being still and full, all at once.

What This Collection Is Holding
This collection began in a place that isn’t mine by origin — Norway, where my partner’s family lives — but it felt like home in a way I didn’t expect, and still can’t quite explain. We were there for a white Christmas, my first, surrounded by snow-soft days and people I’ve come to love deeply. These paintings hold onto the quiet moments that linger: the warmth of being gathered after too long apart, the stillness of a hidden house on the fjord, the quiet pull of a cathedral I’d never seen before but somehow already knew.
They’re not about recreating a place. They’re about something deeper — the feeling of being welcomed into someone else’s world, of walking alongside a path that’s not your own, and feeling, somehow, at home there too. They’re about joy that belongs to others, and how beautiful it is to witness. About distance, and closeness, and the soft, surprising shape that belonging sometimes takes.

Each piece in The Shape of Belonging is painted in a single colour, explored through quiet variations of shade and depth. This choice wasn’t just visual — it was emotional. Like the way some memories return not in full detail but in feeling, or how some dreams surface in black and white, these works lean into the essence rather than the specifics. A certain kind of remembering lives here — not literal, not exact, but true in its own way. By limiting the palette, I’ve tried to stay close to what mattered most in each moment: the shape of the emotion, the texture of presence, the way belonging sometimes arrives not with clarity, but with a quiet sense that this is where I’m meant to be.

Everything is packaged by hand in my studio, using mostly environmentally conscious materials. I avoid plastic wherever possible and use paper wrapping, cardboard mailers, and compostable tapes. Occasionally, a small amount of protective plastic may be used for delicate surfaces — always with care and intention.

I create textured, abstract works with acrylic — inspired by nature, emotion, and this wild, beautiful thing we call life. Each piece begins with an idea, then evolves intuitively through the process. My work is about connection; when someone sees a part of themselves in a painting, that’s the heart of everything I create.
Alongside painting, I’m also a florist, and I still absolutely love it. I spent many years creating wedding flowers for couples, and there’s something incredibly special about it. Floristry, like painting, is creative and expressive, but it’s also grounded in nature, which I’m endlessly inspired by. That connection flows into my art too, in the movement, the texture, the colour, and the feeling.
